Mastercard co-innovation unlocks
a healthcare payment competency

Health Pass was a co-innovation exercise with Mastercard to offer a first of its kind healthcare payment competency. I worked with business stakeholders, product leads, and the development team to create a mobile experience that allows consumers to conveniently pay all their medical bills from one place, while offering insights at the time of payment.

Overview

“Health Pass lets you view and pay all your medical bills in one place. We inspect your bills before you pay, and we provide Billing Interpreters when you need help or guidance”.

  • Consumers can iew and pay your medical bills using your HSA, credit or debit card.

  • Inspect your bills and find out when they are ready to pay or need review.

  • Take control of your bills by recording in-office payments, adding photos of paper bills, or viewing your balance by provider.

  • Get help from Billing Interpreters when you need it.

Design activities

Framing the problem

  • Participated in group interviews in order to empathize with our target consumers and understand the challenges, conditions, and constraints they face when managing their healthcare bills

  • Interviewed experts & SMEs to gain key insights into the history, context, and innovations relevent to healthcare billing and payment

  • Conducted secondary research to more broadly understand the design challenge

Solution ideation

  • Participated in weekly HCD design sessions to share findings, generate ideas, and refine solutions

  • Created frameworks (Journey maps, 2x2) to visualize data and develop strategies

  • Crafted wireframes in Sketch & click-thrus in Invision to prototype solutions

  • Launched numerous tests on Alpha HQ to test and refine concepts and solutions

Design implementation

  • Acted as UX lead to create the entire front-end mobile experience

  • Participated with the development team to create specific assignments for implementing the user experience

  • Focus on engagement across the (new) life of a medical bill

  • Conducted shift-left testing sessions to craft user stories in order to prevent defects in requirements, architecture, and design
