I spent the better part of a year on the SmartGlass team working on the Xbox One update of the companion app. The majority of my work was focused on fleshing out the UI for the SmartGlass version of Xbox OneGuide, an electronic program guide (EPG) that augments the set-top box's existing functionality, allowing integrated access to online video services.

The console's version of OneGuide was already under way, giving us a solid starting point for adapting the app to both tablet and phone form factors across iOS, Android and Windows platforms.

The app launched in 2014 to solid reviews. Later, in January of 2015, the Xbox One received an Emmy Award for Television Enhancement Devices for '...the Xbox One's industry-leading television-on-demand and media center capabilities.' SmartGlass and it's OneGuide app were key players in this win.

Hi-Fidelity Comps

Below are some late-stage comps displaying our tablet and mobile solutions. The tablet design, which shared the same horizontal orientation as the console and has a large viewport, didn't provide the many design challenges the phone did with the app's fixed vertical orientation and smaller viewport. Therefore, most of our EPG explorations involved the phone form factor.
